We are a family from Berne, Switzerland who moved to Nashville in July 2017. Ever since we have been trying to get familiar with the American way of living and even more with working off the list of things you have to do before you can officially call yourself a Nashvillian...

Bartaco: tacos with a tasty twist

February 2, 2018

I am an absolute taco addict, thats why we are really lucky to have this vivid Mexican place right in our neighborhood. Located on 12 South Ave, Bartaco serves all different kinds of tacos, ranging from all time classics (pork, chorizo, etc.) to a bit more exquisite combinations (try their seasonal secret tacos!). Have some homemade guac and chips while you try to decide which of the delicious tacos you are going to order.

Upscale street food with a coastal vibe

In 2015, the owners of Barcelona Wine Bar (another favorite of mine) have opend this casual, stylish Mexican restaurant. The bright colors and soothing earth tones add a coastal vibe to the ambience. The restaurant has a very nice terrace, enhancing the laid back coastal feeling. Outdoor seating is even available during winter time with the help of radiant heater and blankets.

Besides  the heavenly tacos Bartaco also serves a seizable list of cocktails with freshly squeezed fruits. Servants are extremely helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is very joyful.

The only downturn, it can get extremely crowded especially during warm summer nights. Unfortunately you cannot reserve a table but you can call them 30 minutes prior to your arrival, and they’ll add your name to the waitlist. Upon your arrival you have to check in at the host stand and you’ll be seated as soon as your name gets to the top of the list (which still can take a while). At night, it also can get very loud inside, however for us with two kids this is actually a plus becasue other customers won't hear our kids screaming around! ;-)

Kids-a-dillas

But the best part is yet to come. The place is actually not only enjoyable for adults but even more so for the little guests: instead of the usual suspects aka fries, nuggets and hotdogs, there is a great kid’s tray including kids-a-dillas, a choice of taco, corn wheels, steamed broccoli and fruit skewer. As soon as you have been seated, the server already brings water for the kids (in a shutter proof cup with a lid on) and a coloring book with pens to paint - who ever runs this place I bet must have kids!
