12 South Farmers Market: support local producers

Personally, I think that there is no better place to buy fresh, local produce than a farmers’ market and Nashville has plenty of options for stocking a healthy fridge and pantry. Living next to Sevier Park we are very lucky to have the 12 South Farmers Market just around the corner. This market offers everything you could ever need: all types of seasonal grown fruit and veggies, freshly baked loaves, meat, local cheese, fresh-cut blooms and a continuously changing choice of delicious other food. Not only you get to choose from very high quality food but also support local farmers with a price they deserve for the quality they produce.

Check out my favorite vendors

#1 Local Blossoms: Kirsten Knecht is a flower farmer and photographer with a passion for growing, capturing and sharing the beauty of blossoms. Her blooms are freshly cut and arranged in lovely bohemian style bouquets. My daughter loves to stop by at her stand because Kirsten usually gives her a beautiful flower which she can put in her hair.

#2 Dozen Bakery: one of my favorite bakeries in town joins the market from time to time. Coming from a country where you would only eat toast bread in the form of a croque monsiuer and where you find one of the biggest varieties of breads (especially dark breads), I am still trying to get used to the rather limited choice of freshly baked breads that you can find in store. That is why my heart is about to jump when Dozen Bakery is at the market and I can buy a loaf of their sourdough or one of their crispy baguettes.

#3 Noble Spring Dairy: No matter which flavor (cherry berry, cranberry honey, chocolate truffle and pimento are just a few of them), I am just in love with their soft spreadable chevre! Combine their goat cheese with one of Dozen Bakery's baguette and you feel like in Provence, France.

#4 Bountiful Blessings Farm: this small, family farm nestled in the hills of Middle Tennessee specializes in berries and year-round vegetables. We love their produce, even more since we got to know that lovely Kirsten Knecht from local blossoms belongs to this family.

Join a neighborhood event instead of just running your errands

But the weekly market is much more than just a place where you can run your groceries. Far-more it is a place where you can meet people from your neighborhood, listen to upcoming and talented musicians, nibble homemade cookies and sip freshly squeezed lemonade. Your kids will be busy for hours at the handicraft corner (provided by Whimsikids), with face painting or other fun activities to explore.

And the best thing is that you will always find 2-3 different foot trucks in the parking lot, waiting for you with mouthwatering street food that you can bring home for dinner (at least once per week this saves me from a big hassle in the kitchen, lol).
