These days, when the weather gets warmer, the birds start twittering outside the window and spring flowers emerge from the earth, it is tempting to start thinking about a nice picnic. I think there is nothing more relaxing than spreading your blanket on a green meadow, open a chilled bottle of white wine and eat some cheese, baguette and salami.
One of our favorite places to do that is Arrington Vineyards. Founded by Kix Brooks, co-owner and country music artist, Arrington Vineyards is located 25 minutes south of Nashville among the beautiful hills of Arrington, Tennessee. It is a great place to enjoy spectacular vineyard views and some local wine with your family and friends while listening to good music.
Arrington Vineyards Harvest Party
The first time we visited the vineyards was last August at the annual Arrington Vineyards Harvest Party. We thought it would be a good idea to arrive at noon already in order to get a good spot to see the concert. When we arrived the hill was pretty much deserted and it turned out that the concert would not start until 6 pm. Luckily it was not one of these August days during which the sun beats down relentlessly and so we were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery while eating our picnic and tasting some wine flights.
Later in the afternoon more and more people arrived until the whole hill got extremely crowded. Finally when the sun started setting, Kix Brooks kicked off the concert and it felt a little bit like in earlier days when we visited the 'Gurten Festival' back home in Berne, Switzerland.
We highly recommend this event to enjoy with your family and even more so to support a good cause. Last year for example the proceeds of a portion of wine sales from that day benefited Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Music in the Vines
From April through October, Arrington Vineyards also hosts 'Music in the Vines'. Families are welcome to bring blankets and chairs, a picnic and friends to enjoy two live music events on the property: Jazz in the Courtyard and Bluegrass in the Grand Barn. Music in the Vines happens Saturdays from 4 – 8 p.m. and 2 – 6 p.m. on Sundays.
They have a deck, patio, barn loft (seasonal) and courtyard with seating plus some picnic tables distributed around the property (which are normally very popular on busy summer days). They also do offer some cheese, crackers and other appetizers if you decide you want to buy something there. However we usually bring our own picnic (obviously the wine we buy on site) and just relax in the grass and listening to the music while the kids run around (we recommend to stay until dusk is falling in order to enjoy the breathtaking sunset).
